Citrus Farm Manager - Letsitele, Limpopo

We are inviting farm managers with experience in managing citrus orchards to apply for this position with our client, a well-established farming group in Limpopo.

The candidate must be willing to relocate if he/she does not reside in Letsitele.

Experience:

  • 2-3 years farm management experience

  • Citrus farming - beneficial

  • Managerial experience (team of 10 people)

  • Farm Size (280HA)

Responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for overall farm operations

  • Supervise farm workers to carry out the day-to-day farm activities in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

  • Direct citrus production operations, such as planning, planting, fertigation, irrigation, harvesting, pruning, spraying, pest management

  • Maintain financial, operational and production records

  • Set benchmarks for each type of technical operation and aim to reach them

  • Motivate and train employees and labour to achieve better quality

  • Meet with and discuss with consultants means of maintaining target yield and quality

  • Maintain overall tree health and farm sustainability

  • Oversee the maintenance of farm assets

  • Work is reviewed at several steps along the way for accuracy

  • The position includes performing standard and routine assignments independently to conclusion; unusual problems which may require exceptions to procedures or processes are referred to the supervisor.

Technical skills and experience required:

  • Knowledge of techniques and equipment for planting, growing, and harvesting citrus

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modelling, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

  • Knowledge of tree needs and control of pests and diseases

  • Ability to evaluate trees overall health and sustainability

  • Ability to choose the right fertilizers and chemicals and the timing of application

  • Ability to manage, motivate and train a small sized team

  • Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work
